Rick has served as the Manager and Head Coach of the Boyertown American Legion Baseball program since 1988 and continues to date with over 1000 wins, 13 State Titles and 5 Mid-Atlantic National Regional titles which qualified them for the American Legion World Series Tournament. He began his baseball coaching career while teaching Health and Phys. Ed. at Perkiomen Valley High School from 1980-1985. His teams were Bux-Mont League runner-ups in 1983 and 1985 and were League Co-Champions in 1984. Rick then began as an assistant coach for the Boyertown American Legion team in 1985 before taking over in 1988.
Rick’s teaching and instructing background have made him one of the premier instructors in the Tri-County area. He has worked as a clinician and special guest for many camps and clinics including the Dick Ludy Baseball School, Baseball Camp for Champs and with the Ursinus Baseball Clinic for 10 seasons. While working at the Boyertown YMCA Rick developed and directed the Winter Pre-Season Baseball Clinics as well as a five and six year old T-Ball Instructional League. Rick’s education degree, teaching experience and camp work has given him great insight into youth development, physical and cognitive limitations and age-appropriate concepts of teaching baseball skills to young players.
Rick has also had the opportunity to work with and coach some outstanding talent and players who have gone on the play at the collegiate and professional levels. He has developed some outstanding pitching prospects that have played at a high level including Matt Spaide (St.Louis Cardinals), Tim Bausher (Boston Red Sox), Jared Trout (Independent League), Nick Allen (Seattle Mariners), Shane Houck (San Francisco Giants) and John Smiley (former Pittsburgh Pirate and National League All-Star). The Boyertown Baseball program has placed over 80% of its players into various collegiate level programs and continues to be a priority with Rick’s tenure.
Coach Mike Ferreri has been with Rick Moatz Baseball and Softball Training since he began in the fall of 2008. Mike teaches group classes as well as private lessons.
Mike has been involved in baseball from his early years playing youth baseball up through the present. When Mike and his wife Jaylee started their family they knew they wanted their two boys to learn the game of baseball the right way from day one. That lead Mike on a journey of Youth Baseball coaching, teaching, lecturing and clinic instructing. As his boys grew older Mike started to teach privately aspiring young baseball players. When Coach Rick opened his training center, Mike was the first instructor hired to work side by side with Rick.
Mike has coached High School Baseball, Teenage Baseball and Youth Baseball. Having never completed a season with a sub-500 record coach Mike has been honored to teach the game to so many talented young people. With league championships, to week long tournament championships, Mike knows what it takes to win and he is ready and willing to teach all that want to learn.
Mike resides in Gilbertsville, with his wife Jaylee. They have two sons Cameron (23) and Connor (19)
